Senior Director, Accounting Operations

Summary: Oversees all accounting operations and works collaboratively with the Finance Unit.
Location: Remote
Anticipated salary: $121,000 Extended experience: up to $149,000 if experience exceeds expectations
Principal Functions:
- Manages the operations of the accounting department; develops and implements accounting policies and procedures
- Continually evaluates accounting procedures to improve the quality and timeliness of accounting services provided and aids in controlling costs and maintaining financial stability
- Manages and oversees accounting and financial reporting systems
- Supports Audit and Finance Committees of the Board of Directors
- Oversees the coordination of the processing of all accounting information for the general ledger, including overseeing the accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash allocations, and other journal entries including coordinating year-end close
- Prepares/oversees the preparation of account analyses, fixed asset schedules, and investment schedules
- Oversees external audit process to ensure all auditor requests/questions are processed accurately and timely and addresses any management comments from the auditors
- Develops, analyzes, and interprets statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of performance against budget and other matters bearing on the financial soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization
- Analyzes monthly financial statements and shares results as appropriate
- Prepares quarterly financial statements for the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
- Works closely with the Finance unit to seamlessly manage grant processing and expenditures.
- Ensures preparation and filing of all required tax documents
- Proactively engages in professional development and learning opportunities to stay current in field
- Maintains insurance coverage for ASTHO and works collaboratively with relevant staff to evaluate business insurance needs
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field or CPA preferred
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience at a senior level
- Demonstrated effective and positive supervisory experience
- Experience in a non-profit organization, preferably a 501 (c)(3) which receives federal funding
- Working knowledge of time and expense reporting systems, preferably JAMIS Prime
- Strong computer skills with proven experience in applying technology to departmental processes
- Ability to draft policies and procedures completely, timely, and accurately
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills required
- Excellent interpersonal skills
