Analyst, Chronic Disease Prevention

Department: CHRONIC DIS & HEALTH IMPROVEMENT
Location: Arlington, VA

Summary:  The Analyst, Chronic Disease Prevention assists the Director of Chronic Disease Prevention with project deliverables for federally funded projects important to State Health Officials in the areas of tobacco prevention and control, breastfeeding, and other related chronic diseases.

Principal Functions:

  • Assist in the coordination of project activities and deliverables, including the virtual capacity building and technical assistance activities.
  • Conduct research and data analyst for the use of in-depth reports, letters, issue briefs, case studies, policy statements, blog posts, infographics, newsletters, and articles for publication.
  • Provide administrative support and assist in organizing meetings for deliverables related to ASTHO peer groups (Tobacco Control Network), network affiliates (Tobacco Issues Forum, E-Cigarette Workgroup, etc.) and state health agencies through learning communities.
  • Support capacity-building webinars, podcasts, and other virtual learning opportunities for ASTHO members and partners.
  • Assist in the writing progress reports.
  • Represent ASTHO at local, regional, federal and national meetings and serve as a liaison to state and federal tobacco control and chronic disease organizations.
  • Track and analyze federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial activities related to project issues.
  • Field, assess, and support opportunities for ASTHO to participate in sign-on letters and submit public comments on issues relevant to tobacco control and chronic disease.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with national, federal, and multi-sector partners.
  • Perform administrative tasks when necessary.
  • Organize and provide relevant materials and links for the ASTHO website.
  • Functioning in a team environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • MPH or related masterís degree candidate preferred; interest in public health related policies and effective practices.
  • Relevant experience; knowledge of public health related policies and effective practices.
  • Knowledge of health equity public health strategies. Demonstrable interest in state or local public health and in chronic disease prevention, and other related public health issues. Organization skills to support multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work within a team, independently and follow directions
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Experience with MS Office applications and webinar platforms.
  • Ability to travel regularly.
  • Ability to track and analyze related project issues and legislation at federal and state levels.
  • Ability to work with large networks and to represent ASTHO at meetings and conferences on project-related issues.
  • Ability to translate and disseminate information to various groups and audiences.
