Director, Information Technology

Location: Arlington, VA

Summary: Director, Information Technology manages and directs the organization's information technology (IT) operations under the leadership of the Senior Director, Information Technology, ensuring the technology needs of the organization provide efficient and effective support.

Principal Functions:

  • Works with Senior Director, Information Technology to develop overall IT strategy in the context of the business strategy
  • Directs the planning and implementation of strategic and tactical IT initiatives focusing on cost-effectiveness, efficiency, customer and user satisfaction, and quality.
  • Oversees Help Desk support for all end users
  • Performs IT Orientation for all new Staff, Interns, and Temps
  • Inspects the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality, efficiency, and system security
  • Manages external vendors and contractual agreements
  • Serves as liaison between business usersí needs and technology solutions through applications and data management
  • Implements and manages application life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks
  • Manages computer operation scheduling, backup, storage, and retrieval functions
  • Manages the maintenance and upgrades or phasing out of existing systems
  • Manages the development, implementation, installation, maintenance, and operation of informational, cloud, and functional systems for the organization
  • Identifies areas of improvement and performs appropriate change management


  • Bachelorís degree in Information Technology preferred 
  • 5+ years of related experience required.
  • In depth knowledge of key current and legacy technologies, systems architecture, and infrastructure design. Experience with systems integration
  • Knowledge of rapidly evolving trends, current and emerging technologies/services, and a passion for staying current in the field.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands. 
  • Must be able to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

ASTHO is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia and opened a second office location in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017. ASTHO was incorporated on March 23, 1942 with the goal of helping health officials navigate a rapidly changing public health landscape and remains a strong voice in governmental public health to this day.
