Intern, Health Equity & ASTHO Challenge

Department: HEALTH EQUITY
Location: Arlington, VA

Summary

The Health Equity and ASTHO Challenge Intern will work to support ASTHOís initiatives around advancing health equity and optimal health for all. All initiatives will support state and territorial health officials and the agencies they lead to further health equity and antiracism efforts in their jurisdictions. The intern is responsible for supporting the health equity team and other members of ASTHO staff by developing deliverables and capacity building knowledge products.

Duties include:

  • Develop materials, along with ASTHO staff, for capacity building/technical assistance to states to build placebased and community-led resiliency building activities.
  • Assist with logistics and meeting notes for conference calls, webinars and inperson convenings.
  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare issue briefs and other written deliverables on health equity and antiracism efforts at the state level.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Internís key outcomes:

At the completion of this internship the candidate will achieve the following outcomes:

  • Identify and share with ASTHO staff health equity and antiracism best practices and models in state and territorial health agencies.
  • Display professional communication through at least 1 written product on health equity, antiracism, and population health.
  • Understand how state health officials and their agencies operationalize health equity in state policies and programs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a team setting

Experience

  • Bachelorís Degree or in progress.
  • Strong preference for student studying public health, social and behavioral health sciences, and/or public policy.

Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Preferred Skills
