Senior Analyst, Health Improvement

Department: HEALTH IMPROVEMENT
Location: Arlington, VA

Summary: The Senior Analyst, Health Improvement assists the Director of Health Improvement with implementing federally funded projects important to state and territorial health officials in the area of health improvement, such as heart disease and stroke prevention, Healthy People 2030, and/or other related topics like healthy aging.

Principal Functions:

  • Assists in the management of project activities and deliverables with an approach that advances health equity, including the activities of outside consultants and sub-recipients.
  • Responds to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, and national organizations.
  • Supports capacity building of health agencies through learning communities and other networks by managing recruitment, communication with participants, co-facilitation, agenda development, technical assistance, and training materials development.
  • Develops and disseminates resources for ASTHO members and partners, such as webinars, podcasts, microlearning modules, in-depth reports, issue briefs, policy statements, blog posts, infographics, newsletters, and articles.
  • Assists with the evaluation of project activities and outcomes.
  • Assists with writing of proposals and project reports.
  • Monitors progress of cooperative agreement goals, maintains communication with project officers, and documents progress monthly.
  • Provides staff support to relevant ASTHO committees.
  • Collaborates with ASTHO programmatic and cross-cutting teams to enhance project deliverables.
  • Maintains health improvement content and related tools on the ASTHO website.
  • Maintains situational awareness of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial activities related to health improvement issues.
  • Fields, analyzes, and assists with opportunities for ASTHO to participate in sign-on letters and public comments on issues relevant to health improvement.
  • Represents ASTHO at local, regional, federal and national meetings.
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with national, federal, tribal, and multi-sector partners.
  • Provides supervision of a graduate-level intern when funding is available.
  • Attends ASTHO meetings and conferences.
  • Performs administrative tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience that advances health equity and systems change.
  • Understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation for equity, cultural humility, and inclusiveness.
  • Masterís degree in public health or related field preferred.
  • Three years of experience implementing policy and systems change work.
  • Knowledge of state or local public health, disease prevention, and/or health promotion preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills complemented by an ability to translate and disseminate information to various groups and audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically with a variety of colleagues, funders, state/territorial and federal officials.
  • Ability to develop project outcome measures, analyze progress, evaluate outcomes, and forecast needs of the team and ASTHO member agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to exercise own judgment and consider creative courses of action to get the job done.
  • Ability to participate in calls after normal business hours with project participants in the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including MS Word and Excel; basic knowledge of other relevant software applications and video conference platforms.
