Analyst, Immunization and Infectious Disease

Location: Arlington, VA

Summary: The Analyst of Immunization and Infectious Disease will be responsible for policy analysis, technical assistance, and project implementation on topics related, but not limited to, immunization, infectious disease outbreak response, and COVID-19. The analyst/sr. analyst will assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of project activities and deliverables for federally funded grants.

    Principal Functions:

  • Support the ASTHO Immunization and Infectious Disease program to ensure execution and implementation of project workplan activities.
  • Assist project directors with design, development of virtual and in-person convenings for state health agency staff and national partners.
  • Assist project directors with design and development of ASTHO products such as reports, issue briefs, blogs, podcasts, and webinars related to immunization, infectious disease, and COVID-19.
  • Assist project directors with grant proposal development, including identifying new funding opportunities, conceptualizing project activities and deliverables meet member and funder needs.
  • Conduct rapid development, analysis and summary of research and original data collection activities with states.
  • Conduct legislative policy analysis on immunization, outbreak response and recovery, infectious disease and other priority issues for members, affiliates, and national organizations.
  • Identify and monitor emerging issues in immunization and infectious disease policy and work with the project directors to develop and implement response activities, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to project reporting activities including progress reports, project officer updates, and federal funder requests.
  • Develop and manage evaluation of project activities and outcomes and other quality improvement initiatives.
  • Represent ASTHO on national meetings and conferences; facilitating group discussions, as needed.
  • Respond to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, and national organizations.
  • Establish and foster strategic relationships with national partners.
  • Update and maintain ASTHO immunization and infectious disease websites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel may be required once in-person meetings can be convened safely, in accordance with ASTHOís travel policy and jurisdictional COVID-19 guidelines.



  • Masterís degree in public health or related field.
  • 2-3 years prior relevant experience in areas such as public health and infectious diseases. Experience representing a state agency, association, or member-based organization is a plus.
  • Knowledge of state and local public health, immunization and infectious diseases. Understanding of public health functions, systems and infrastructure.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically with a variety of colleagues, funders, and state and federal officials.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to develop project outcome measures, track progress, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively translate and disseminate information to various groups and audiences.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of audio and video conference (webinar) platforms.
  • Experience with project management tools.
  • Ability to travel within service area.
  • Other duties as assigned.


As a member of the Health Security Unit, this staff position may require a greater level of on-call status and accessibility during public health emergencies.

Salary Range: Low-to-mid $50K's
